Professional Dentures

Dentures are a time-tested, effective solution for replacing multiple missing teeth or an entire dental arch. At Dr 7 Family Dentistry, we specialize in designing and fabricating custom-fitted dentures—both partial and full—that restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Our focus is on achieving a comfortable fit, natural appearance, and optimal function tailored precisely to your unique oral anatomy.

Defining Dentures: Full and Partial Replacements

A denture is a removable appliance designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding gum tissue. It provides support for the lips and cheeks and restores the patient’s oral function. We offer two main types:

  • Complete (Full) Dentures: Used when all teeth in an arch (upper or lower) are missing. These rest directly on the gum tissue and bone ridge.
  • Partial Dentures: Used when one or more natural teeth remain. These appliances clip onto existing natural teeth to hold the replacement teeth in place.

We also offer Implant-Supported Dentures, which snap onto dental implants for dramatically increased stability, retention, and comfort compared to traditional dentures.

Benefits of Dentures

Restored Chewing and Speaking Ability

Dentures provide the surface area needed to effectively chew food and replace missing teeth that are necessary for clear speech articulation.

Improved Aesthetics and Confidence

A complete set of teeth eliminates gaps and provides support for the facial structure, preventing the sunken appearance that accompanies tooth loss, dramatically boosting self-esteem.

Cost-Effective Replacement Solution

Dentures are often the most economical way to replace a large number of missing teeth when compared to full-mouth implant restorations.

Preserves Remaining Oral Health

Partial dentures prevent the remaining natural teeth from shifting or tilting into the empty spaces, maintaining the integrity of the dental arch.

Our Dentures Process

Creating a custom denture is a multi-step process that ensures aesthetic and functional accuracy:

Consultation and Diagnosis

We discuss your needs and goals. For complete dentures, we take precise measurements and impressions of your jaw. For partials, we assess the condition of your remaining teeth.

01

Custom Impressions and Wax Models

Detailed impressions are taken, followed by the creation of wax models. You will try the wax model in to confirm the shape, fit, color, and way the teeth meet, allowing for easy adjustments before the final denture is made.

03

Final Denture Processing

Once approved, the wax model is sent to the lab to be converted into the final acrylic denture base and teeth.

04

Final Fitting and Adjustments

You return for the final placement. We make any necessary minor adjustments to ensure the denture is comfortable, the bite is balanced, and the appearance is natural. Several follow-up appointments may be needed for fine-tuning.

Who Needs Dentures?

Dentures are a suitable solution for patients experiencing:

Complete Edentulism (Missing All Teeth)

Patients who have lost all teeth in their upper or lower arch and require full coverage replacement.

Missing Multiple Teeth in an Arch

Patients with several gaps who have healthy remaining teeth that can anchor a partial denture.

Need for Immediate Replacement

Patients requiring immediate dentures to be placed directly after tooth extractions, ensuring they do not spend time without teeth (a temporary solution).

Significant Bone Loss

Individuals whose jawbone structure makes them poor candidates for a full dental implant treatment.

Denture Cost and Insurance Information

The cost of dentures varies depending on whether full or partial dentures are recommended, the materials used, and your individual treatment needs. Coverage for dentures differs by insurance plan and may include specific limits or conditions.

Dr7 Family Dentistry accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for eligible patients. Coverage for dentures under CDCP depends on program guidelines and clinical eligibility. Our team will review your coverage and explain any associated costs before treatment begins.

For patients without insurance or CDCP coverage, denture fees are discussed clearly in advance as part of a personalized treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to adjust to new dentures?

The initial adjustment period usually takes a few weeks. Speaking and eating may feel awkward initially, and minor sore spots are common, requiring a few adjustments at our office.

No. We recommend removing dentures at night to give your gums and jawbone a chance to rest and recover, and to ensure proper cleaning of the appliance.

Dentures typically last 5 to 10 years. However, due to natural changes in the gum ridge and jawbone over time, they will likely need to be relined (adjusted) every 2 to 3 years to maintain a proper fit.

These dentures snap or clip onto a few strategically placed dental implants, eliminating movement, improving chewing efficiency, and increasing patient comfort significantly compared to traditional, unsecured dentures.
